The Guesthouse in association with GAIA Projects invites you to Sunday Lunch with guest chef and artist in residence Nelson Silva Sousa. Nelson is a photographer from Porto (Portugal) and will present a slide show of his work as part of the event. Lunch is served at 3:00pm and Nelson will be serving the traditional Portuguese dish of “Moelas”.

The Sunday Lunch event is made possible through the generosity of its guests and host chefs, thanks to all who have donated to the kitchen larder for the previous events. For this event please bring something from the following list:

herbal tea, tinned tomatoes, coconut milk, kitchen roll etc.

BYO wine or beer

Nelson Silva Sousa, a native of Porto, Portugal, speaks of his photos as being
found sculptures.

The images are intended to create sculptures from elements
discarded by man. They attempt to include elements from nature as
a way of declaring the return of that object to nature. His images
contain a certain reflection about man´s behavior and the
interplay of his attitudes with nature. They are also about the
relative value of something bad enough to discard, but at same
time good enough to be the uppermost object in itself, the object
of art.

The photos intend to create a visual sentence with a certain
ecologist meaning. Finally, the images are a caricature of
mankind, after the disappearance of this mankind due to its own
nature.

Nelson is on residency at the Guesthouse in Shandon until the 30th November.
